The Reid J.K. Richards Foundation was established in 1999, in memory of Reid James Kamakaho'ohie Richards, who passed away following a courageous battle with lymphoma. At the time of his passing Reid was 33 years young and left behind a wife and two young children, ages 3 and 5.
The Reid J.K. Richards Foundation is a family foundation with the primary objective of establishing and assisting programs that will provide support for grieving children and young adults, up through the age of 25 who have lost a parent or primary caretaker through death. Through Reid's experience the foundation understands and appreciates that the loss of a parent or primary caretaker often results in hardships that can limit the potential achievements for many young people.
Through the proceeds of our annual golf tournament, the Reid J.K. Richards Foundation has embarked on several paths in providing support to these grieving children, young adults and their family. Since its inception, the Reid J.K. Richards Foundation has developed and conducted it's own bereavement program Napuaokamakaola, partnered with several organizations in providing information and workshops relating to bereavement, provided funding for participants of various bereavement programs, and beginning this year established the Kamakaho'ohie Scholarship.
The directors of the Reid J.K. Richards Foundation are grateful for the opportunity to perpetuate the legacy of Reid J.K. Richards through the generosity of our family and friends who have participated in our annual golf tournament, given cash contributions, and volunteered their time, skill, and expertise.
In closing, the board of directors of the Reid J.K. Richards Foundation extends it fondest aloha and mahalo to all of you for your interest and support in our endeavors.
